This private half-day trip takes you there for a sunset camel ride and dinner by lantern light in a desert camp, then back to your riad the same night.

- Starts and ends: your riad or hotel in Marrakech
- Distance: about 40 km each way, roughly 45 minutes' drive

Day by Day
Day 1: Marrakech → Agafay Desert → Marrakech
Your driver collects you in the mid-afternoon (around 15:30 in winter, 17:00 in summer, timed to the sunset). The road leaves the palm groves behind and climbs gently onto the Agafay plateau, where the city noise disappears within minutes.
At the camp you are welcomed with tea, then set out on camels with a cameleer for a slow ride across the hills. You stop on a ridge to watch the sun drop behind the plateau while the Atlas turns pink. Back at camp, dinner is served as the stars come out: salads, a tagine or couscous and seasonal fruit, followed by music by the fire.
Your driver takes you back to Marrakech after dinner, arriving at around 22:00.

Good to Know
- Is Agafay a real desert? It is a stone desert rather than sand dunes. For high golden dunes, choose one of our Sahara trips to Merzouga.
- Stay the night: many camps in Agafay offer luxury tents with private bathrooms, so you can turn this into an overnight stay.
- What to bring: a warm layer; evenings in the desert are cool all year and cold in winter.
- Families: a great first desert experience for children; the camels are gentle and the drive is short.
